How does the identity design process work?

Logo designer, Ian Paget follows a goal based logo design process. This ensures the final logo design correctly represents you as a business, and attracts the right audience.

To achieve this Ian will kick off the process by working with you to create a comprehensive list of goals. This will allow him to focus design decisions to ensure the final logo fulfils its purpose, and adds value to your business on-going.

During the design phase Ian will explore a vast number of potential directions. However, will only select the most suitable ideas for presentation based on the agreed upon goals.

A formal presentation document is then prepared. This shows each logo design individually along with supporting images of the design in use. This will allow you to visualise the identity in a real life setting. Ian will also include supporting notes with each option to explain how the objectives have been met.

The logo presentation document, along with the advice provided will allow you to select the most suitable logo or symbol for your business. This will also give you confidence that the logo designed for you will perform.

Once the logo has been agreed, the artwork will be refined and finalised. A kit of logos will then be created allowing you to use your new brand identity across web and print. Full copyright ownership of the final logo design will also be transferred so you can use your new logo as you wish without worry.

What do you get?

Ian provides a professional logo design service, so once the logo is complete and full payment made, Ian will supply a comprehensive logo kit containing various formats. These files are suitable for both digital and print-based application. Full copyright ownership of the final agreed logo design will also be transferred.

To ensure your new logo is versatile, and that you have everything you need for the foreseeable future, the logo kit will include variations of the logo. Along side the full colour version the kit will also include different lockups. This includes single colour versions (both black and white), as well as a Pantone version to allow for consistency in colour and/or cost effective printing.

The file formats provided will be in scalable vector format (Ai, EPS, PDF and SVG) as well as raster-based images for online use (Jpeg and PNG).

Along with the digital files, a guideline document will be supplied. This will help you understand how to use the logo files. If any point you have questions or need guidance with the files Ian will be happy to help and support you.

If required, other file formats not mentioned above can be added to the kit upon request.

Your logo design package will include the following files:

CMYK version – Full colour printing is made up of only 4 colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. These 4 colours mix together to build up any images you can imagine. You will need this format when you require printed material that displays full colour images on the same page. Provided in Vector (Ai/PDF/EPS) format.

Pantone colour version – Ideal for single colour literature, pens and stationery where print costs are limited, or where precise colour application is required. This will be provided in Vector (Ai/PDF/EPS) format.

Pure black version – Like it says, this version is pure black version of your logo. This is ideal for black and white, or single colour documents. Provided in Vector (Ai/PDF/EPS) format.

Pure white knockout – Want to use your logo over a dark photo, or on a solid dark colour? A white version solves colour and visibility issues to give the best result. Provided in Vector (Ai/PDF/EPS) format.

RGB version – Unlike print colours, screen colours are made up of Red, Green and Blue, mixing the light of each colour to make up the full colour spectrum. Your logo will be provided as an optimised Jpeg file format, and transparent PNG, as well as SVG, which is a vector version for digital use.

Favicon – A 32 x 32 favicon of your logo will be created for use on your website.

What Clients Say About Working with Ian

Nicholas Keogh
TN Education

“Ian has been a genuine pleasure to work with. His creative talent was clear from the start – his initial designs were spot on in terms of matching our brief, and he was able to articulate clearly and concisely why he had included particular features of the logo, how they would work to achieve our goals and appeal to our target market.

Through our discussions on the designs, his passion and enthusiasm for design was inspiring. I would also add that his insight and knowledge has not only helped with our logo and image, but also to shape our marketing strategy moving forward as well.

I would absolutely recommend Ian to anyone looking for a reliable, trustworthy and talented logo designer. Based on our market research, the chosen logo has been extremely popular with our audience and customers – the clearest indication that the logo will be a great success. Ian’s creative input was invaluable to achieving that.”

Cristian Brownlee
The Chess Store

“Out of the sheer volume of designers out there, Ian stood out and the reasons for this were made clear from the initial contact right down to the completed project.

His logo design service, process and procedure for designing our logo was exactly what we had hoped for and we couldn’t be more happy with the end result. On top of his clearly creative and talented efforts to the designs that he offered to us, his educated reasoning for each design was immensely welcomed and paramount to the decision-making.

Working with Ian was an absolute pleasure from start to finish, and I can only hope that this is the first of many future projects of which I will have the privilege to take advantage of his services.”

Ali Juice
Juice Steps

“I have absolutely loved working with Ian and LogoGeek! He made me feel completely at ease with professional, and polite but human manner of communication throughout the project. But more importantly, Ian is so passionate and motivated that when I was working with him, and talking about my business – which is my baby, he increased my excitement and motivation!

He gave me lots of ideas and help with marketing and advertising. When I had feedback on his first logo draft, we discussed exactly what the idea was together – and he even accepted my terrible drawings of what I had in my head as an idea! He then sent me back the most amazing and perfect logo, incorporating everything we spoke about!

I couldn’t have been happier!”

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a professional logo design cost in the UK?

The cost of hiring a professional logo designer in the UK varies widely depending on experience, scope, and the design process involved. Working with an experienced designer like Ian Paget, pricing generally falls into two ranges:

  • Bespoke logo & identity design projects (research, strategy, concept development, refinement) typically range from £1,000 to £5,000, depending on complexity and project scope.
  • Artwork-only projects, where you already have a clear concept in mind and just want it professionally created, are quoted separately based on the work involved.

Every project is quoted as a fixed fee following an initial consultation, so you'll know the exact cost, tailored to your specific needs, before any work begins.

How long does it take to design a logo?

Most logo design projects take between 4 and 6 weeks from project kickoff to final delivery, depending on current project commitments. This timeframe allows for research, concept development, revisions, and preparation of final artwork files.

The exact timeline will vary depending on the complexity of the project, client feedback turnaround times, and overall workload. Ian provides every client with a clear project schedule and agreed milestones before work begins.

If you require a logo within a shorter timeframe, accelerated projects can sometimes be completed in as little as 1–2 weeks, subject to availability. Where possible, Ian will adjust his schedule to accommodate urgent deadlines, so it's always worth discussing your requirements during your initial conversation.

Why should I hire an experienced logo designer rather than use an AI logo generator?

AI logo generators can create visual marks quickly, but they cannot think strategically about your business, audience, competitors, or long-term goals. They generate graphics based on existing patterns rather than creating a truly original identity.

Working with an experienced identity designer means investing in a logo that's built around your business objectives, brand positioning, and target audience. The result is a distinctive, memorable logo designed to help your business stand out and remain effective for years to come.

Can I trademark a logo designed by Ian Paget?

Yes. As part of the logo design process, Ian conducts due diligence using the WIPO trademark database and reverse image searches to identify potential conflicts with existing trademarks and visual identities.

Once the project is complete and final payment has been received, full copyright ownership of the logo design is transferred to you, giving you complete ownership of your new business identity. This allows you to apply for trademark protection in your chosen territories.

For complete legal protection, Ian recommends working with a qualified Trademark Attorney once your logo design has been finalised.

Do you work with clients outside Birmingham?

Yes. Although Ian is a professional logo designer based in Birmingham, he works with businesses throughout the UK and internationally. The entire logo design process can be managed remotely using video calls, email, and online collaboration tools, making location irrelevant.

Many of Ian's clients have never met in person, yet still benefit from the same strategic and collaborative design process.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo design is distinctive, memorable, appropriate for its audience, and versatile enough to work effectively across all applications and sizes. The most successful logos are also timeless, avoiding design trends that quickly become outdated.

However, great logo design is about more than pretty pictures. An expert identity designer creates logos strategically, ensuring the final identity supports business objectives, communicates the right message, and helps build long-term brand recognition.
